Sacha Baron Cohen star of the worldwide smash Borat and the creator of comedy icon Ali G, has signed on to play Queen Frontman, Freddie Mercury, in a movie about the legendary rock band. The movie doesn't have a director yet but filmers have stated that filming will begin sometime next year. There's also word that surviving Queen members Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon will co-produce with GK Films and Tribeca Films (Robert De Niro's company).

"Queen is one of the greatest rock bands of all time, and a music brand all unto itself," GK Film's Graham King said in a statement. "Freddie Mercury was an awe-inspiring performer, so with Sacha in the starring role couple with Peter's screenplay and the support of Queen, we have the perfect combination to tell the real story behind their success." Sacha Baron Cohen has largely starred in comedic roles throughout his career so this will be a new challenge for him and an interesting prospect.
