It's this weekend that movie "Aardvark" premieres in The United States and Kitao Sakurai gets his first opportunity to see how Americans react to his latest film which is already a mainstay in the European festival circuit after it's first showing Locarno this past summer and the film puts to film the real life story of a blind man recovering from being an alcoholic (Larry Lewis Jr) and his larger than life Jiu Jitsu teacher (Darren Branch).

In the film, Larry and Darren play themselves and essentially reenact their lives together. At a certain point the film departs into a realm of complete fiction, but in general “Aardvark” blurs those lines considerably. It also marks the debut feature from Sakurai, who has a wide-ranging resume that includes acting in Kevin Smith’s “Dogma” as a child, and more recently working as a DP on Ry Russo-Young’s Gotham Award winning “You Wont Miss Me.” Born in Japan, at the age of three Sakurai and his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he went to Japanese school and was admittedly “super shy.” But when he started doing plays, he realized the power behind acting and performing. This led to roles in film (including the aforementioned “Dogma”), which in turn led to an interest in filmmaking.

So an exciting prospect for film maker Kitao Sakurai who will gain much more respect and adulation if this film can gain praise from American audiences.

Meanwhile, Jockeys Calvin Borel and Javier Castellano traded punches after Castellano made an abrupt move on the racetrack Jockey Calvin Borel leaned toward Javier Castellano, pointed, and just like that, the winner’s circle at the Breeders’ Cup morphed into a boxing ring. The three-time Kentucky Derby winner Borel and Castellano tussled at Churchill Downs just moments after tangling during the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Marathon in an ugly, chaotic scene that left Castellano shaken and Borel pleading with security officials to let him go so he could “kill” his rival.

So it seems racing fans got a boxing match lumped in with the race. A 2 for 1 offer spectators weren't expecting!

Based on their figures, the Cadillac Escalade had the largest rate of insurance claims made because of theft, with a rate of 10.8 per every 1,000 of the cars being insured.

That’s five times more than the average car gets stolen. But those numbers don’t just include the vehicle being stolen. It also includes break-ins and thefts of parts of the vehicle. Cadillac Escalades are equipped with ignition immobilizer technology to prevent theft and keep the car from being driven after a break-in, but studies reveal that the Cadillac Escalade is relatively easy to steal, despite it’s large size, through the use of flatbed trucks or a vehicle pushing the Escalade from behind in another car.

So designers of the vehicle may want to revise the design of the car because based on these figures the company is likely to see a slump in sales.

Amazon customer review: "While I'll probably never use this as an MP3 player (I have smaller devices for that), it makes one nice video player. I've been playing with one for a little while and here are my impressions thus far:

Positives:

1) The video. Wow!!! I doubt there is anything this clean and crisp out there that is this small and portable. The video looks fantastic and I've yet to have any hardware lag while viewing it.
2) 160GB. That is massive and just the right size for carrying around video.
3) Intuitive user interface. I've got a Zune for my mp3's and I often find that complicated (and irritating) to navigate around but this is quite easy to figure out. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to get this to work the way you want it to. Navigating around a movie is fantastic as well because it is so easy to pause, fast forward, or do anything else you would want to do on a video player.
4) Responsive Touch-Screen. Using the touch screen was quite easy... I don't think I even touched the buttons on the side much. I had no problem even though I've got some thick fingers.
5) Sound quality. This thing sounds great some with nice earphones. I can see why some might use it as an mp3 player as well. It sounds awesome!

Negatives:

1) No standard USB Connection on the device? Come on, if you are going to be this large then give us a standard USB interface, please. For one, it is smaller than this ending. Also, if we are near a computer we can use the USB to charge it without having to carry the proprietary cable around. USB is just sooooo... universal... I'm flabbergasted anytime somebody doesn't include a USB connection.
2) Battery. First, this isn't removable so you can't carry a spare pack around. But it doesn't last that long when playing video. This wouldn't be too much of a concern if it had a USB connection because there is always a way to charge it that way. But if the battery doesn't last as long as a laptop... there isn't much point.
3) Browser is not good. You can download video from Youtube and a few other sites but you can't just get out on the web and grab stuff. I've read you can buy a browser to do this, but something decent should have come with the device. If you are going to have Wi-Fi, why not make it as functional as possible?

So, if you are willing to shell out the cash this is an excellent device for video. I'd have other preferences for music but this is quite capable of handling that as well."

mehserle sentencing

Judge Robert Perry is yet to make a conclusion yet in the trial of ex BART policeman Johanne Mehserle, who shot dead 22-year-old Oscar Grant III on the Fruitvale BART platform as he was trying to arrest the man. Sources for the defence say he only intended to shoot the victim, not kill him and he should be sentenced according to it being a tragic accident.

Judge Robert Perry but has made several statements indicating that he will not impose the maximum sentence and might throw out the gun-enhancement charge. Mehserle was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in July in the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Oscar Grant III on the Fruitvale BART platform. Perry said he has "serious concerns" about the gun-enhancement charge. Without it, Mehserle would face the maximum of six years. Perry also chastised Mehserle and Grant supporters as he read excerpts from letters and post cards he received. Perry said he was troubled by the lack of knowledge many people in the community had, in particularly a school principal who said Mehserle should get the maximum sentence because he committed murder.

So a decision is certain to be made soon by the judge who must takes strong cases for the defence into account when deciding the fate of Mehserle.

Seems like another hollywood star has had herself completely exposed to the public via leaks over the internet. Kat Dennings, star of Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist, where she starred alongside Michael Cera, has seen photos of herself been leaked by an unknown source, across the internet.

Perez Hilton is reporting that Kat, whose upcoming films include Daydream Nation and Thor, is the star reportedly in the naked photos that found their way onto the Internet. Is she the latest victim of the growing problem of cyber-bullying? It looks as though Kat Dennings was the person who sent the photo via a cell phone text message, and somehow it wound up in the wrong hands.

Whoever leaked the photo definitely did not have good intentions. As more and more cases of cyber-bullying pop up, we realize that the problem isn’t going away anytime soon. In fact, it seems to be getting worse and worse as technology advances.

So definitely an embarassing situation for the star who will be wanting to find the perpretrator behind the photo's revealing.

It's been reported that Nick Lachey, singer in the band 98 degrees and a TV personality, is to be wed to long term girlfriend, Vanessa Millinno. The 36 year old, Lachey was previously married to star singer and actor Jessica Simpson and the two starred in an MTV reality show about their lives together, called "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica."

Lachey now serves as host of NBC's "The Sing-Off whilst the 29-year-old Minnillo is the host of ABC's "True Beauty.

"They're so happy, doing great," a source adds. "Thrilled about it." According to another source, Lachey proposed with an Asscher-cut diamond with baguettes from Bader & Garrin. "I popped the question on bended knee," Lachey tweeted Thursday. "I do a lot of squats so my knees are very strong." The two began dating in 2006, following his highly-publicized divorce from Jessica Simpson. Though they briefly split last summer, they got back together a short time later. The engagement was first reported by Us magazine.

So more wedding bells for the former boyband star Lachey, who found moderate success in the boyband 98 degrees in the late 90's along with contempories like the Backstreet boys and N*sync.

The world's oldest living person, Eunice Sanborn, of Jacksonville. Texas is actually a year older than records had initially suggested and she is 115 not 114, according to Yahoo News. Her family had corrected the initial record that U.S. Census Bureau mistakenly noted her birth year as 1896 when it should have been 1895.

Sanborn was pronounced the world's oldest person Thursday after the death of Eugenie Blanchard, a 114-year-old living in the French West Indies. She lives in Jacksonville with 24-hour-care by her adopted son David French and his wife Rena. Sanborn's family claims she was born on July 20, 1895 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She has outlived three husbands and her only child, Dorothy. AFP said that when Sanborn was told that she was the oldest person in the world, she simply said, "Oh, think of that."

So a fine achievement in this day of age to see the grand old age of 115 and not everyday you get told you're the oldest person alive!

Last night David Cassidy was reported to have been pulled up by the Florida highway patrol as his mercedes was said to be "weaving and nearly caused an accident". The famous actor/singer and star of television show "The Partridge family" told cops that he "drank a glass of wine at lunch time and popped a painkiller a few hours before he was stopped by the highway patrol.

However, a breath test showed blood alcohol readings of 0.139 and 0.141 -- way over the .08 legal limit, TMZ said. The highway patrol trooper who caught him then found the half-empty bottle of bourbon after searching Cassidy's car. There was no mention of the arrest on Cassidy' official web page Thursday. The latest news section featured an item that a gig he performed in 1989 in the Ukraine was being posted on YouTube. His spokeswoman, Jo-Ann Geffen, told TMZ he admits taking a pain pill and being tired from attending a funeral, but insists he was not drunk. She did not immediately return an e-mail from The Associated Press.

So a highly embarassing situation from the former teenage star who was a heartthrob amongst teenage girls in the 1970's.

American president Barack Obama stated that voters gave him a "shellacking" in yesterday's elections and said the reason was because they want both the democrats and republicans to work together. Minority leaders John Boehner and Mitch McConnell said today in a news conference that they hope Obama and congressional democrats meet the call from voters to find solutions to national debt and unemployment in a bipartisan method.

Obama, at a White House press conference shortly afterward, said he heard the voice of “frustrated” voters unhappy about high unemployment, slow economic growth and concerned about government “overreach” into their lives. “What I think the American people are expecting and what we owe them is to focus on those issues that affect their jobs, their security and their future,” Obama said. “I’ve been willing to compromise in the past, and I’m going to be willing to compromise going forward, on a whole range of issues.”

These results from yesterday see the Republicans biggest hold of power in the house since 1938 and will sure to alarm democrats across the United States.

Ex Detroit Tigers and Cincinnati Reds coach Sparky Anderson is currently in hospice care after receiving complications from dementia. He is said to be at the Thousand Oaks, California home and Sparky's family said they are thankful to all of the manager's friends and fans who have shown kindness to the manager throughout his managing career and retirement.

The 76-year-old Anderson was inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame in 2000, culminating a major league career that included one nondescript season as a player and an historic run as a manager. He won 2,194 games as a manager, the third-highest total in major league history trailing Connie Mack and John McGraw. Anderson was the first manager to win World Series titles in both leagues and the only manager to lead two franchises in career wins. He led Cincinnati's Big Red Machine to World Series wins in 1975-76. He won four National League pennants in Cincinnati from 1970-78, then was fired after consecutive second-place finishes.

Sparky Anderson was clearly a legend and it is a shame to see him having such hardships in the twilight of his life but at least he has plenty of great memories and fans earned through his glittering career.

Despite the democrats being whipped in the mid term elections yesterday, liberals in California can take comfort with the news that Nancy Pelosi has kept her seat in house. Pelosi was America's first female speaker in the house and was called "the most powerful woman in politics." However the GOP took control of the House of Representatives last night and it is believed that Pelosi will make way for the house minority leader.

Nancy Pelosi’s victory is really surprising as the Republicans grabbed the control of the chamber after four years. It is to be noted that during her election campaign, Pelosi was noncommittal on the issue of online gambling. Although Pelosi had low ratings, the soon to be former Speaker of the House of Representatives, pulled up a surprise. Republicans tried hard to wean away public support from Pelosi by slamming her agenda regularly. Republicans won more than 60 seats in yesterday’s election to gain control of the House. The healthcare reform proved to be Pelosi’s nemesis as she led the way for its passage in the House despite strong opposition from the American people.

Drug laws will see a shake up in california where today voters will be casting their votes and giving their decision on proposition 19, which is a law that will see anyone over the age of 21 to have the legal ability to grow and own small quantities of Marijuana. If it comes into jurisdiction then California will be teh first state to legalise the drug for nonmedical reason.

The initiative has gained worldwide attention and its chances of passing have been endlessly dissected by pundits. As late as this summer, polls showed that a majority of California voters supported legalization. But opponents now say Prop 19's chances have gone up in smoke, even as advocates argue that legal pot could provide a variety of benefits -- a tax windfall for the cash-strapped state, more police attention to violent crimes and a boost to the state's agriculture sector. "Support for Prop 19 is evaporating faster than bong water at Burning Man," said "No on Prop. 19" spokesman Roger Salazar in a statement on the group's website. "Californians have discovered that the claims of benefits made by proponents just aren't true."

exit polls 2010

At the moment, exit polling data will be processing through news sites and blogs worldwide and give hints as to who is the victor in yesterday's election. No official data regarding the polls was released before 5pm today so any official exit poll data you think you've received before that time today is most probably false.

The exit pollsters release no data to the networks that pay for it until 5:00 p.m. Eastern time, and the networks do not report full tabulations until the polls close. However, certain pieces of data such as the results to issue questions could start to be reported on air at that time, and results about who is ahead or behind often leak before that time. However, you won't see an officially tabulated exit poll result until after the polls close in any given state. And as Mark Blumenthal wrote in 2004, "those leaked exit polls really don't tell us much more about the outcome of the race than the telephone polls we were obsessing over just a few hours ago. Even if we wanted to call a race on unweighted, unfinished, mid-day exit polls alone (something the networks will not do), we would need to see differences of 10-15 points separating the candidates to be 95% certain of a winner."

Young actress Shannon Tavarez, who played the role of Young Nala in the Broadway production of "The Lion King", has lost her fight against Leukemia at the tragicly young age of 11. She had strived to raise awareness for the disease and for bone marrow transplants and her call inspired celebrities and the public. Alicia Keys, Rihanna and 50 Cent took up her cause. At least 10,000 people registered as bone marrow donors because of it.

Shannon died Monday afternoon at Cohen Children's Medical Center in New Hyde Park, on Long Island, of acute myelogenous leukemia, a common type of leukemia among adults, but rare among children. "She was a remarkable and talented young lady who touched the lives of those she entertained, as well as those who cared for her over the past several months," medical center said Tuesday in a statement. In August, we reported on Shannon's difficulty in finding a suitable bone marrow transplant and her decision to try cord blood instead. "It's rare that you meet such a spirited girl at such a young age," said Katharina Harf, who runs a donation center. "She touched so many people to register. She was really, really a special girl."

marine corps marathon results

The marine corps marathon took place on Sunday the 31st of October. The course involved going through georgetown, part the lincoln and Jefferson memorials, The U.S. capitol and the pentagon and it's distance was 26.2 miles long. There were 30,000 runners which included 100 registered wheelchair and hand-cycle participants.

Jacob Bradosky of Centerville Ohio won the men’s division. The second lieutenant at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California was running his first marathon, and finished in 2 hours, 23 minutes and 30 seconds. Janet Cherobon of Rome, Ga., won her sixth straight marathon in the women’s division. She finished in 2 hours 39 minutes and 19 seconds. According to bleacherreport.com, “In the women’s division, Janet Cherbon of Kenya was a late entrant to the event and took home the top spot, finishing in a time of two hours, 39 minutes and 19 seconds.” This event was open to anyone who wanted to race and since it was held on Halloween, many of the runners wore costumes, making the event a bit more playful.

where do I vote

Many people across the United States are getting ready to vote but lots of you are in the dark over where it is you go to cast your vote. This is done by simply referring to your voter registration certificate which you received on registering to vote.

This document will list the telephone number. When you call, tell the person that answers the phone your precinct number which is located on your registration certificate to find out where your polling place is located. Remember, on election day you must vote in the precinct where you are registered. However, during the early voting period, you can vote at any early voting site within the county you inhabit.

Also if you didn't register to vote at least 30 days ago you won't be able to partake in the election voting this year.

Discover financial services were able to reach an agreement with payments processor company Moneris solutions which will see the merchant acceptance of Discover increase and expand in it's acceptance throughout Canada and beginning next year merchant customers with Toronto-based Moneris will have the ability to accept transactions on the discover card.

Moneris offers credit, debit and other payment services for more than 350,000 merchant locations across North America, and is Canada's largest merchant acquirer.
Gerry Wagner, vice president of global acceptance for Discover, said the company plans in coming years to aggressively expand the number of Canadian merchants that accept Discover cards. David Ades, a senior vice president at Moneris, said his company is the first payments processor to offer Discover card acceptance to merchants in Canada. Shares of Riverwoods-based Discover Financial fell 3 cents to $17.49 in afternoon trading.

So good news for Discover cards which will receive more exposure throughout the United States and give owners the ability to pay for more with the card.
