challenger explosion
Today sees the 25th anniversary of the Challenger explosion which took place in January 28th 1986. The Space shuttle challenger disaster happened 73 seconds after it took to flight and nine miles above the Atlantic. NASA will be remembering the tragedy and paying tribute to those who lost their lives on the spacecraft.
"This year marks the 25th anniversary of the loss of the Challenger—a tragedy that caused us to completely rethink our systems and processes as we worked to make the shuttle safer," NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in an AFP report. Along with deputy administrator Lori Garver, Bolden honored the lives of those lost in Apollo 1 and space shuttles Challenger and Columbia by laying a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia Thursday morning.
So the voyagers on the challenger remembered with due respect by NASA and many others today on the 25th anniversary of the tragedy.
