The host nations for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA world cups have been announced today and the 2018 tournament will be held in Russia whilst the 2022 tournament will be in Qatar. Qatar's selection left a lot of glum faces in the Tampa bay Area as representatives of the USA bid for the 2022 tournament were waiting there hoping they would get picked.

The United States and Australia had been tipped as favorites alongside Qatar. Japan and South Korea were also in the running. Qatar brings the World Cup to the smallest host ever but one which has unparalleled financial clout to stage the world's biggest single-sport event. It overcame objections about holding the games in desert heat and asked FIFA to take a "bold gamble." "We go to new lands," FIFA President Sepp Blatter said.

So a big project for the middle east country who will have to make sure their stadiums, security and technology are in top condition once the 2022 tournament is ready to begin.
